Held jointly by the Compagnie de Suez and the Institut de Développement Industriel (IDI), the Astorg company, with about €180M in capital, was involved in growth capital.
Suez acquired 100% of Astorg’s capital and the company status changed to that of a venture capital holding company after being delisted from the Stock Exchange. Astorg managed the disposal of its existing portfolio and enlarged its investment strategy from growth capital to small LBOs.
In 1998, some members of the Astorg team organized a spin-off from Suez and created Astorg Partners. Since then, the amount of assets under management has steadily increased with the creation of 3 successive funds: Astorg II in 1999 (€185M), Astorg III in 2005 (€300M) and Astorg IV in 2008 (€800M).
